Tips for Dry Eyes

There are some simple tips and tricks that can help reduce those bothersome Dry Eye symptoms.

 

 

Lifestyle changes to help reduce Dry Eye Symptoms

Healthy Habits

Have your eyes checked regularly.

Keep your eyelids clean and clear of debris by using your eyelid cleansing wipes.

Whether putting in eye drops or applying makeup, wash, rinse and dry your hands before touching your eyes


If you wear contacts lenses, keep lenses clean and only wear them as prescribed.

Wear glasses on windy days and goggles when swimming

Quit smoking and/or avoid secondhand smoke

Healthy Diet

Hydrate, drink plenty of water

Eat a healthy diet that includes Omega-3 fatty acids

Healthy Enviroment

Use proper lighting

Reduce the amount of air that blows into your eyes (hair dryers etc.)

Monitor indoor humidity or add a humidifier as needed

Take a Break 

Try to blink every five seconds, especially when staring at your computer screen or digital device

Take breaks from extended activities like working at the computer or reading

Use the 20:20:20 rule: Try looking at something 20 feet away (~6m) for 20 seconds every 20 minutes

 

Tips to relieve different Dry Eye symptoms

 

  • Use of Artifical Tears can relieve Dry Eye symptoms
  • Warm Compress; A damp washcloth or other warm compress can soothe Dry Eyes and provide relief
  • Eat a healthy balanced diet
  • Take breaks from your digital screens
  • See your optometrist
